MG MGB Technical - Stub stack/ram pipe for ZS carb
Does anyone know of a source for a stub stack/rampipe for the ZS 175 carb used on the later model MGB's. I have a 79 that has a custom intake manifold and am still toying with the idea of fabricating a cold air box/plenum for it. To make these work best a ram pipe or stub stack is required. I know that these carbs were used on Jaguars and was hoping there might be a source for such an item. |

Frank, I have seen stubstacks in the Moss Special tuning booklet. That booklet deals with MGB, c:s and midgets. I think the stubstack or rampipes were made by K&N. Cheers Erik |

Frank: We've made several of these intake ram-pipes now and they've met with great success. The assembly bolts directly to the front of the ZS carb and consists of a 1 3/4 in. tube which curves forward to just clear the brake master cylinder and terminates with a plate accepting a 3 in. K&N filter. The tube is tuned for excellent torque when used with the rest of the system we've designed for the MGB/ZS combination. This is the setup used by Barry Kindig whose posts on the subject you may have read on this BBS. The archives contain many of his excellent "drivers hands-on reports". The outstanding power/torque available from the single ZS is unbelieveable to most people who haven't experienced it. But...the ram pipe, special manifold, special needle, modified carb, and special exhaust system must be in place to realize this potential, together with a Eurospec distributor in the ignition department. If you're interested further, please feel free to contact me offline for more details. Best regards, Mike Brown, Seven Shop British |

Thanks Mike, I see that Moss and TWM both offer these air horns. I was wondering if they interfere with the vent for the piston and float chambers that are also on the carb face that attaches to the air filter. Anyone know that answer? |
