MG MGB Technical - SU HIF4 Fuel Discharge

One of the HIF carbs on my car is discharging large amount of fuel onto the ground from its float bowl vent tube.

In older style HS carbs, this is the sure sign of a stuck needle valve/seat with foreign matter in it, or of a leaking/sunk float.

Two questions:

1) Is it the same for this style carb? Or is there another problem that can cause this symptom?

2) How do I fix this? Is there a way to fix with carb on car? Or must I remove carb from car and pull fuel chamber lid, etc to reach needle valve.

Thanks

CM, It's the same problem only not as easy to correct. Before removing the the carbs you may want to try a trick Paul Hunt has suggested several times. Disable the fuel pump and run the engine until the carbs are empty. Reconnect the fuel pump and turn on the ignition. The sudden rush of fuel may clear the problem. If that doesn't work you need to remove the float cover and check for trash, fuel in float, etc. I have never tried removing the float cover without removing the carbs. The carb is the same basic design as the HS-4 with the addition of a temperature compensator for the the jet, it shouldn't have anything to do with your leak. Good luck, Clifton
