MG MGB Technical - SU pump identification
Please , who can help me determining the SU type is my fuel pump : definitively a SU ( points+ rocker )but don't know the original car. Externally , the two I/O valves are kept in situ via 2 screws pressing a large collar on top of them, connection via rubber hoses and clips. Lone info onto the top casting: MCD8 BS1004 + a specific mention :"Position outlet at top". Many thanks in advance . |

Renoug, Are you sure it's an SU? SU pumps are all prefixed 'AUF'. Having said that I note that the AUF200/AZX1200 pump has the words 'Position Outlet At Top'cast into the pump body (valve end). The 'AUF' marking is (from memory) stamped into the outside flange of the coil body looking from the points end. Peter Daley |

Renoug - It sounds very much like you have a German clone of the SU AUF 214 fuel pump. Peter is correct in stating that all SU pumps are prefixed with AUF (or AUA in the case of the low pressure pumps). The MCD8 (or possibly MCDB is a prefix used by the Harting or Hardi pumps of Germany. These pumps look identical to the SU pumps except for a difference in the pedestal on which the points are mounted. They are an excellent pump, one that is well worth saving if you can find a source of parts, such as the points and diaphragm. For identification of the various SU fuel pumps, see my article at: http://www.custompistols.com/cars/articles/dd_su_fuel_pumps_101.htm Cheers - Dave |

My MGA has a Harting fuel pump and it has provided excellent service. It has never given me a bit of trouble. If thats what you have, I wouldn't worry any. |

Dave , Bill , Many thanks for your help , your article was really helpful and of course MCD8 might be MCDB . I guess mine is a Harting too . Where can I get the rocker points to refurbish it ( good coil , points resisting in excess , so no pump movements ). I attempted a web research ... unsuccesfully . Best regards . |

Dilemna still on , From my own it's a SU : I've just discovered a new inscription hidden below outlet valve port " AUB 613" and the rocker/points assy. tends to confirm my opinion. Any idea ? |

Hi Renou, A points set AUB6106 available for your pump direct from MGOC at £12.25 for members. If you wish contact them Tel: +44 (0)1954 230928. http://www.mgownersclub.co.uk You can download a parts list from them. Frank |

Renou - If you intend to get the points from the MGOC, check whit them to see if they get their points from Burlen Fuel or from Intermoror. If they say intermotor, tell them no thank you and order the points directly from Burlen Fuel <http://www.burlen.co.uk/>. The points from Intermotor don't last as well as the Burlen Fuel points. You may still have a Harting/Hardi pump with a SU pump body on it. Look at the pedestal (the part that the points attach to). If the pedestal is completely round with cutouts for the wires and a rectangular cutout where the points contacts are, then you have a SU coil housing and pedestal and the AUN 6106 points will work in it. If the pedestal looks a bit like a horse shoe, completely open on the side where the points contacts are, then you have the Harting/Hardi pump. If it is a Harting/Hardi pump, try dressing the points with a sharpening stone, they will usually respond to this quite well. As far as I know, there is no place to get new points or diaphragms for the Harting/Hardi pumps. Good luck - Dave |

Dave, It really looks like a SU pump , described the points pedestral . So far, I will contact Burlen to get back the proper points kit . Thanks all for your help . |
