MG MGB Technical - Suspension
I purchased an MGB while deployed to Iraq and am happy with it except the left side of the vehicle is lower than the right side of the vehicle. I have ordered the standard books to help determine the problem, but does anyone have any ideas what may be the primary cause of that condition? |

Craig, This not an uncommon problem. I would start by looking for old worn out springs. Don't forget to check the obvious stuff like air pressure in tires. There are threads on this in the archives. Start eliminating suspect parts one by one until you figure out what is causing the problem. Worse case could be a bent/sagging unibody, but it is probablu in the suspension pieces. What year/model is your car. There are experts here that can give you more info if needed.. Good luck with your new B |

Moe, I have a 1974 mgb roadster. Thanks for the information on the common lean problem. How difficult is it to replace springs? Craig |

Not that difficult. A bit of swearing usually helps. You can try swapping the springs left to right to determine if it is the springs or something else. |

I would not get to pickey about this problem unless you just need more worries in your life. I have known of a lot of time spend fixing? this problem only to have it back again. Bob |

As long as you can undo and remove the front bolt, which tends to seize in the bush in the spring, the rest is easy. You just need a safe and methodical approach for supporting the body on axle stands and raising and lowering the axle and springs in the right order. If swapping them over you need enough space to do both sides without having to move the car, of course. When fiting new springs thre hardest job is finding a pair that don't end up making the car look like a submissive monkey. I've fitted OE springs in the past without problem, but these days more people seem to be getting problems even with those. |
