MG MGB Technical - Temp Sender Adapter?
I replaced my temp gauge on the weekend but ran into a problem when putting it back together. The head on my B has or had an adapter or boss that screwed into the head and then the bulb from the temp gauge screwed into the adaptor. When I went to tighten the brass bulb the adaptor snapped off in the head. I have had a look on the a few suppliers’ websites but haven’t spotted the adaptor and I am now thinking it may have been custom made. Did the later model heads have an electric sender instead of the mechanical one and is this an adaptor to convert the newer head to fit the older sender? i have attached a pic of the adapter. Thanks in advance. Mark |

FWIW 77 and on UK models have an electric sender for the temp gauge, as early as 68 for North American spec. Moss shows it with the earlier mechanical gauge, but other suppliers seem to indicate it was only for the midget. I have one on the V8 but not the 73 B, both mechanical gauges. |

This adaptor was used on 1275 Midgets to prevent the bulb from bottoming out in the head. |
