MG MGB Technical - Third motion shaft shims

When I dismantled the rear extension I found shims between the third motion shaft distance tube and the third motion shaft rear bearing.
My parts book and Moss/VB catalog seems to indicate that the shims should be fitted between the third motion shaft flange and bearing.
Which is the correct way?
Thanks, Henri

Henri; In the MGB shop manual Section Fb.2 step 9
(Calculate the thickness of shims required between the third motion shaft front bearing, and the gearbox rear extension case, as follows:)

In the Haynes mgb manual on page 125 step 9 Shim calculations; (When a new rear cover or third motion shaft components have been fitted, it is essential to recalculate and fit the shims required between the gearbox rear bearing and extension housing (see Fig. 6.8).).

I'm not a transmission mechanic and perhaps some of the people that have been to a John Twist course can provide additional information. Good luck.
