MG MGB Technical - Tollerance Guide

Hi All,

Having purchaced my first MGB, I am wondering if anyone can provide me with some tolerances within the exterior bodywork.

The chassis is square, door openings are equall, main chassis rails level, (all seals inner outer centre, brand new front wings, bonnet, welded some time ago therefore no rot!).

However when viewing the car from the front, the N/S wing is lower than the O/S win by about 10mm at the very worst above the headlamp. (the wing tapers from half from the windscreen, the windscreen scuttle is level)

What I can make out is the inner wing has been replaced incorrectly.

If I was to pack up the front of the wing, by half (5mm) would the overall tollerance be in specification?

Or is there any way I can adjust the wing?

One further piece of information is looking along the chrome strips mounts, the door, rear quarter are in line, the wing is in line with the door, but tapers downwards toward the front of the car. Therefore the corect height at the door hinge.

The O/S is all correct.

Thanks....Hope this makes sense....

The Bentley manual doesn't specify any measurement verifications for the front wings. You can verify your frame height from the ground and distances from the frame to the wing bolt locations, as well as the wing bolt locations to various suspension components. You can also cross check the front to rear wing bolt holes to verify they aren't out of square. Does your front bumper appear out of square with the wings? Keep cross checking measurements from side to side until you find the discrepancy. Then either repair the inner fender to equalize distances or shim the fender.

Are all the tyres the same size and inflated to the same PSI?

Thanks for the info,

Yes the PSI are all correct, as is the axle height (checked this prior to measuring car)
