MG MGB Technical - Tonneau cover for 67 w/headrests
I've just fitted a pair of Miata seats to my 67B and they fit great, also look and feel great. I presently have a tonneau w/o headrest pockets, which of course no longer fits. Can anyone confirm that the 69 tonneau with headrest pockets will fit. I checked the archives and it looks like the later ones for 70-80 were 1" longer and had snaps instead of lift the dot fasteners on the top of the dash. Thanks for your input, Andy 67 B Roadster, 74 B GT |

"HAD SNAPS INSTEAD OF LIFT THE DOT FASTENERS" My 69 C and my 76 B have interchangable tonneaus. Historicly I think my 64, 63 and 67 also interchanged without the headrests, as I use a non headrest tonneau on my 76 goodluck RIC |

My 69 has a snap on the dash top, one at each windscreen post and one on each door top. I also think these were installe dby the dealer and not the factory. I think only the metal dash cars use a lift-the-dot on the dash top. |

Thanks Guys, any idea if the tonneau is the same size for all the years. Someone in the archives said that the later ones were 1" longer. I just want to make sure that I buy the right one and I can attach the fastners myself. Thanks Andy |

I do not have an early on eto compare, but my front snap is on a short tab, the end of which is located under the right side windscreen center rod bolt, which would need the extra length. BTW I looked in Clausager and some pillow dash and later cars have a lift the dot stud on the dash top. I do not know if this was introduced after 1969 or was up to the dealer to decide. What do others have? |

Andrew, I have 2 lift the dot fastners on the drivers side and 2 snaps on the passenger side. Both are located at the front edge of the dash top just past the vinyl rolled edge of the metal dash. I had forgotten about Clasager and will take a look at my copy now. Once again thanks for your reply. Andy |

The covers that connect to the dash top lift-the-dot studs are about 1" longer than those that fasten to the windscreen pillar or door top studs - I have both types. Whether this is the same 1" difference as between early and later I don't know. |

Andy, watch out! If you´ve got the Abingdon Pillow type dashboard, you will need the longer tonneau cover. I have a 1964 B but with headrest seats. I have a wierd tonneau cover which I bought from a friend with the Pillow type dash. It was too short for his car. The tonneau has a right hand drive zip but the steering wheel pocket on the left. I had to install extra press studs to match the ones on the dash (it had only "lift the dot" fasteners here). I would very much recommend you take it to your local MG parts suppliers to get the right one first time. Mike |

I'm getting ready to order a tonneau from Prestige Auto Trim. (I just need to adjust to the 8 hour time difference). They note that CB cars UK spec had 3 LTD pegs on the dash and imply that all US Spec cars with moulded dash have one LTD peg in the center. "Note: USA Spec cars with moulded dash and 1 LTD peg in centre..." My '74 CB has a center LTD peg and snaps on the lower windshield pillers, behind the door mounted rear view mirrors and immediately behind the rectangular hood clips (just behind the doors). I think a call to Prestige would answer all your questions. http://www.prestigeautotrim.com/usa/pages/mgb_hoods.htm http://www.prestigeautotrim.com/usa/pages/contact.htm Good Luck |
