MG MGB Technical - Trim questions 76 B
I have a 76 MGB, and have been removing various trim pieces to more thoroughly clean them and the paint. I would appreciate help with the following: headlights -- should there be a dust excluder behind the trim ring? Side lights -- is there a gasket between the chrome light and the plinth? VB catalog shows one Moss doesn't and there are none on my car. Is it just a rubber washer around the lamp base over the hole in the wing which the wiring goes through? Side trim -- have you ever looked behind this? Am replacing the mounting hardware and plan to treat with penetrol before installing the trim. Any other thoughts? Cowl vent -- what is the best way to remove this piece? Thanks and regards, Dennis |

Cowl vent- lift straight up. Side trim is stainless, so it won't rust. There was no rust on the body behind mine either. I had no gaskets on the side lights between plinth and chrome nor a dust excluder behind trim ring on headlight. A rubber gasket does go behind the bucket. |

Yes dust excluder NO sidelight gasket (have 4 ifin u want them) (from the VB cat) twixt the plinth and body I've MADE the little doughnut gaskets from neoprene stock instead of the rubber VB. So the sidlight req's only the lens gasket and mine had the round gasket stock (unobtanium) Side trim is attached with 'T' nuts(3 per side) and male snap connectors. Yes crud gets trapped in there and usually rusts the 1/8" holes.... Find some small MYLAR flat washers for between the snap and the body. 1/8" SS rivets will come in handy! Vent cover should lift straight off but have seen some owners put the plastic insert UNDER the cowling.... |
