MG MGB Technical - Trunk hoses
I am working on a 1970 MGB. In the trunk near the wiring harness inlet there are two holes. Each has a hoses coming out of the hole through a gromit and has a "T" connected. The hoses under the car are not attached to anything and there are not any hoses hooked to the top of the "T's". I do not see what these hoses were connected to on either end. What are they for? |

Don, They sound just like the breather tubes for the fuel pump. One goes to the rear, the other goes just behind the casting where the fuel lines attach. Sound like a PO has disconnected them, probably when the pump was replaced. And yes, the top of 'T' pieces connect to nothing. Glen |

There is also a vapor canister on the left upper side of the trunk. |

I finally had time to work in the garage today and looked for the attachment points on the fuel pump. I do not see or feel any. Is it possible that this fuel pump does not have the places to hook up hoses and it has some other type of breather? |

Don - If you have a SU fuel pump, there is one vent at the base of the coil housing, just above the flange that attaches to the pump body. Some pumps (but not all) have a second vent on the end cover. The vents get a length of hose about the size of windshield washer hose, attached to them,"T"ed together if there are two vents and the hose run through a grommet into the trunk as a source of relatively dry air. If your pump is not a SU pump, then it probably doesn't have any vents that wil attach to a hose. Cheers - Dave |
