MG MGB Technical - Twin Carb Conversion Problem
I am in the midst of converting my 77 to twin SU's. The problem I have is the rear air filter is very tight against the brake booster. I am using HIF's off of a 74.5 and the K&N conical filters as commonly recomended. Motor mounts have been replaced. I am thinking of removing some material from the insulator blocks to ease the situation. Is this required? Any other filter options? Any thoughts appreciated. Scott |

Scott- If you're using the North American Market SU HIF4 which lacks provision for a vacuum takeoff, you will need to use the thinner Advanced Performance Technologies' carburetor spacers (APT Part# MFA338) which come suitably modified to provide fittings for the vacuum lines to a manifold advance distributor. A companion unported spacer of the same thickness is also available from Advanced Performance Technologies, although a second spacer with a vacuum takeoff may be substituted to allow the use of a vacuum-assisted servo for your power brake system. |

I took one of the spacers and cut it in half. Then used one of the half spacers on each carb and there was sufficient clearance. Randy Olson 1977 MGB with twin HIF4's |
