MG MGB Technical - Voltage stabilizer location
I am trying to replace the voltage stabilizer on my 79mgb roadster. I have followed the directions in the Haynes manuel, but can not find the component under the dash. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Davy Crocker |

On my car at least it's on the firewall up near the very top, just below the underside of the cowl. Do you have a reason to believe yours is bad? For all the talk of how unreliable they are, I've never seen anyone come back and say, "Yes, mine was the problem" (for whatever problem they were chasing....) |

Oops! Hit the wrong key. Ignore the second post! ;-) |

If you are sitting in the driver's seat, it should be just to the left of the tach, about 2/3'ds of the way up the dash. i always have to lay in the footwell and reach up behind the dash and work on it blind. I have a 78. |

Mine was bad. The temp readings was unstable (1969 MGB). I replaced it with an IC LM2940T that deliver 10volt out. See the webb for datasheet and connectings. I mounted it inside the stabilizer housing so it look as an original. Now I have a very stable temp reading. Tjellvar |

Just to help you spot it, it looks like the flasher unit. |

What Tjellvar suggests is well worth considering. Here is a web page with some additional details. This one uses a more readily available IC, but also requires two additional resistors. http://home.comcast.net/~whaussmann/wmgb/wmgbframeset.htm |

Hi Rob Edward, Would you be a unix guy ? The to be ignored typing furiously looks like an "ED" command sequence for substitute character string ??? Nobody is perfect! |
