MG MGB Technical - Water coming out of top of Radiator

I recently fitted a heater valve thing on my 72 BGT the old one was leaking water over my distributor. I since then I have had no heater, I think I have an air pocket. How do I solve it. I now get a bit of water coming out the top of the radiator. It does not do it if it is not completely full, only when I fill it up. Also how do I set up the timing using the wheel thingie on the distributor.

Thanks all

I've just done my carbs, stuck a straight through hand made SS exaust complete system from downpipe.

Lol, sounds like you are having fun with your car, a little water out of the rad is not a problem, they do not need to be filled up to the neck. Have you checked the new valve you fitted seems to open and shut when you turn the heater knob?, if so then you might just need to disconnect the pipe that goes over the top of the engine from the pipe that goes into the heater box, and fill it with water. The adjustment of the distributor wheel is just fine tuning when you hook up a timing light, have you got a timing light?, if so hook it up and adjust the wheel and you will see it advances or retards the timing buy a few degrees, saves having to unclamp the distributor.

no I havent got a timing light, but I have solved the heating problem doing what you said, but my car still running bad again help ?

The carbs seem to have go off after a day the tick over gone ARRRRRRRRR Give me fueil injection and eletronic ignition (just joking)

So you have been adjusting the carbs etc, was it running ok before? If it was then it can be fixed, if it never ran ok, then it might be something worn out.
Do you have a Haynes etc?. It is best to start by checking the points etc before setting up the carbs, its easy and cheap to get a timing light, and it can show you a lot about the engine.
Where in London are you?

I was also having some water come out the top of my radiator. I got a new cap at Advance Auto, only to have it be worse. I have since gotten a new cap from LBCarCo.com and it seems to work fine. It appears that the American replacement is not as tall as the British counterpart, and does not fit as well.

Well North East near in-between Edgware and Watford I did manage to get the carbs set up again and running sweet. Its hs4 with ritch needles and have to back off the nuts on the bottom of the carb almost right down to the bottom to get it to run ok.

The water seems to have stoped but I must have another air blockage because the heater blowing cold again :(

NE? thats more NW isnt it?, If your heater is running cold, I would check there is no leak in the heater matrix that is allowing air in & water out, it makes a real mess of the car ( rust )

Back off? As in undo? As in lowering the jet? That richens the mixture.
