MG MGB Technical - Water Pump Diameter
I recently bought a replacement water pump for my 1971 MGB. It is marked VF016 and QCP738. It has a flange and impeller diameter of around 60mm. The one I removed has a flange and impeller diameter of around 74mm - hence it probably won't seal properly. Anyone know when a change was made and which engine the new one might fit?? Thanks Andrew |

Must be a misboxed item. No MBG used such a small diameter pump. I believe that all MGB motors have the same physical water pump openings and bolt hole/mounting and the differences in pumps involve shaft length and mounting points for air pumps. I'm thinking you have a midget pump. I see that there is a QCP748 listed for midget, |

I just looked at a picture of a QCP748 so THAT ain't it, but still think that someone mistook a Midget pump for a B and put it in your QCP738 box. At a glance it looks like the QCP738 is the right pump for your 71, you just didn't get a QCP738 pump in your QCP738 box. |
