MG MGB Technical - Weber Carb Air Filter

I have a Weber down draft carb on a 77 "B". What type of solution(s) do you folks recommend to clean the air filter. Thanks for your help.
Brien

without knowing the manufacture of the filter it is difficult to recommend anything. If it is fabric, suggest that you obtain a K&N recharge kit - they're about $10

The filter came with the Weber carb new. It is fabric. What is a K&N recharge kit?
Brien

Brien. The K&N, and some other, filters use a mesh and fabric to do the filtering. With the K&N kit you get a cleaner to clean the grease, oil and dust out, they you wash the filter, let it dry and spray it down with the K&N filter oil before re-installing. Most of the cloth type filters are designed to be used with oil to provide maximum filtering. Anyone who carries K&N filters should have the cleaning/oiling kit. Les

Brein, Just use a little dish washing soap with warm water in a bucket. Dunk it up and down a few times and rinse with warm water. Let it dry and spray with K&N air filter oil. Spray it from the outside in (only).

OK, are you people saying that the "longflo" air cleaner that comes with "weber carburetors" can be treated with K&N chemicals.. I was under the assumption that K&N chemicals could only be use on K&N filters..If that be the case I'll save a few dollars by treating my Longflo air cleaner with K&N...Thanks again

My understanding has always been that the stock weber air filter was a non-reusable paper type.

The long-flo foam air filter should not be oiled. It can be washed with soapy water. Dish soap or shampoo, anything designed to remove oil, should be fine. But it should be installed dry.
The weber I bought from red-line came with a K&N type no-name filter which was identical to the K&N - gauze and metallic mesh. These filters can be serviced with the readily available K&N kit.

FOAM -DRY

GAUZE- LIGHTLY OILED
