MG MGB Technical - Weber Conversion
I Have finally finished the Weber Conversion on my 1980 B and all I can say is WOW. Never knew this engine could run as well with a noticable power increase. This BBS was a great help thanks Cec |

Hello, did you have before the SU carburators or? I like also the converse my '74 mgb to weber carburators to have more power. Wich type did you use and what were your problems, so i can avoid them. Kind regards Erik Belgium mailto:enijst@tisclai.be |

I also have a 74 MGB that I had purchased with the 32/32 downdraft Weber. The original HIF's came in a box. I had them rebuilt and they work way better than the Weber; much better low end torque and easier starting in cold weather (down to 20F). If you feel compelled to convert, take a look at the 32/36 Webers that I have seen in Brit-Tek catalog. They might be more satisfactory. Mark |

The conversion kit I used was from Bri-tek A Weber 32/36 DVG. The kit replaced the Zenith Stromberg. Everything comes in the kit that you will need except one 2" exhaust clamp and you might have to flare the exhaust pipe where it mates to the original exhaust. The kit I had was WSK002 with the electric choke. This was basically a trouble free conversion. I have read where some folks have had to raise the engine to get the exhaust header pipe in place but mine went there quite easily. The problem I had with my engine was hard cold starting and ideling problems I was thinking about rebuilding the Zenith but decided against it because the trottle shaft was worn and the body of the carb as well. I even fitted it with a manual choke but didn't help the starting problem. I enjoy my MGB just cruising around not racing but it can cruise at 120 KM/HR which is fine with me. I just like a car that works well. If it has a problem I cant rest unless it's fixed and the Weber fixed the Starting problem now all I do is tap the accelerator and it starts as good as my 2004 Ford Windstar. I retained one of my carbon cannisters to vent the valve cover and gastank and ran a hose from the Oil seperator(engine front side cover) to the new air cleaner housing(elbow supplied with kit)I also installed a small filter at the end of this hose prevent gumming up my new carb because the hose comes into the Air cleaner after the air filter. I did this conversion slowely while the snow was on the ground and I also replaced all gaskets cleaned and painted the engine and installed a cast aluminum Valve cover just to brighten up the engine bay. If you do this conversion I will be here if I can help after all thats what this BBS is all about Cec Fry Wabush, Labrador Canada Look that up on the map:-) just to see where this B is living |

I'm currently in the process of converting to the Weber DGV 32/36. I believe I have most of what I need, but I'm running a little blind. I got the conversion second hand with no instructions. While it doesn't look like there is anything out of the ordinary going on it might be nice to find a set of the direcions. Anyone have a clue if there is an online source? Thanks Marty |
