MG MGB Technical - what carb oil should i use?

What the "f" .... I use the dregs of the quart of Castrol 20/50W that I just added, and when I change the oil I save the last bottle for that purpose too. Enough remains in the bottom to top up the carbs once or twice. At a gas station, in a pinch, I will rummage through the trash can at the pump for a "empty" oil quart bottle. Although these days them new-fangled engines do not seem to require a quart or two between oil changes as they did in the "good old days". Some folks use ATF in very cold weather, but then my car is in storage during our Ohio winters. |

When I do an oil change, I drain the dregs in the used bottles into a pump type oil can. Use it for both the carbs and for topping up the tranny (dipstick types). Start off using the engine motor oil and change to a lighter oil, such as ATF, only if you find it works better. Relatively easy to change out the oil in the carb pistons if you have SUs. The Z-S is a little more difficult and, when the O ring seal goes, the oil drains out quickly, leaving the center tube dry. Les |

I have had real good luck using Marvel Mystery Oil. I have been satisfied with it's performance in the winter and the summer. |

Why wouldn't one use genuine SU Damper Oil? |
