MG MGB Technical - What push horn badge is this?

Hi everyone,

I have a wee problem with the horn 'button' which sits in the middle of the steering wheel. It is cracked and needs replacement. I don't know exactly which one to order... So I need your help identifying it. It is for a 1967 Mk1 roadster.

Hmmmm... Just order the one for your year MG (I hear you say). Well, that's where I have struck my problem. The PO had replaced the standard 'bus sized' steering wheel with a very nice smaller diameter one. As this is non standard, he has also put a centre horn badge in from another year MG.

Now the badge needs replacing. I have checked various catalogs and can't assertain which one it is (due to small black and white drawings in the catalogs).

Anyway... Its dimensions etc are as follows:
* 42mm diameter (approx 1 and a half inches)
* 5mm thick (3/16 inch)
* It has a red background and has 'MG' text in silver in the octagon... which is within a silver circle.
* The 'MG' and circle have been 'cut into' the badge when looking at it from the back. Sort of like it was routed in.

Hopefully one of you gurus can let me know which one it is. I had ordered one about a year ago thinking I had it... bummer... wrong size and profile was sent to me.

Thanks in advance

Sounds like the horn push came with the steering wheel. Most steering wheel manufacturers provide the proper marque horn push with the adaptor kit for the wheel. If you can determine the make of the wheel then you should be able to get a replacement from then.

Unfortunately... still a problem.
The steering wheel gives no clues as to its origin. There are no markings from the manufacturer. Got me stumped where it came from. So any clues as to what year of MG a similar badge comes from would be helpful.

Thanks

Mark, there may be some type of identifying marks on the inner surface of the adaptor. Other than that you might post a photo link and see if anyone else can identify the wheel. Also take a look at the various catalogs from sources such as Moss and see if the wheel resembles any of the aftermarket items they sell. The most common wheels are from Mounty and Moto-Lita, but there are some other brands which show up occasionally.

This sounds like the center trim that was found in the '69-70 cars only. If it is sort of a lens shaped item i'm sure that's what you've got. I believe there's one up for sale on ebay now. cj

Mark, it sounds like part # BHH 2687 which was used on >76 LE models. The same thing with a black background is CHA 747 & another alternative is BHH 1994. Note these were not actual horn swiches, only motifs for the wheel centre. Barrie E

Hi guys...

Thanks for the reponse so far. I thought it was a question which would be hard to determine (due to the plethora of changes to the MGB specs over the years).

Chris and Barrie seem to be on the right track as to what I am after. I am going to check the relevant catalogs for further clues now.

Barrie, Thanks for the part numbers... This will really help. And yeah... it's not the actual horn switch. It is the motif for the centre of the steering wheel I am after. You are spot on there.

Thanks again guys
