MG MGB Technical - Wheel arch protectors

I have recently fitted 15in wire wheels to a '72 mgb roadster. The finished job looks excellent, however when the front wheels ar on full lock they are catching on the wheel arch protectors that have been fitted by a previous owner. As they provide protection i don't really want to remove them. Has any one had the same problem and if so any suggestions to correct
Thanks in anticipation
Martin

Martin,

There's only so much you can put in a suit case.

You'll have to decide what to leave out. And since you just flipped for the 15 inch wheels.......

Martin,

Sorry for the flippant answer --

One of the things to consider is to mark where the wheel some in contact with the inlay protectors, then cut out a section, a little bit larger to accomodate any recoil travel of the front wheels.

Is the contact on the inward or outward bound? In determining the answer to that, you will find if the protecors would still be servicable.

I know this post is more helpful than the previous -- but unsure if the remidy is of value. Post how you fixed it. I; curious.

I now have 15" wheels on my V8 - 7" wide. The car has been lowered and I use plastic wheelarch protectors. There is quite sufficient clearance although very slight scuffing shows that on a severe dip in the road traveling at speed the wheel can come up to the protector - but only enough really to wear away a film of raod dirt.
I've used plastic wheel arch protectors for many - nearly 30 years on many MGBs - even before they were commercially available I used to make my own from garden dustbins - and the benefits are enormous so I would keep on using them. I am sure that you don't need to cut parts out, you only need to undo the fixings on the inside edge and push the protector further up into the wheel arch. It is very easy to do.

Marc,

So a few more fasteners after a little more pushing. Duely noted!
