MG MGB Technical - Which Over-Drive Switch
I will soon have an O/D installed on my 74 1/2 GT. Did this car come with O/D switch on the steering column or on the shift knob. My current wiper switch has no O/D function. I guess I have my choice in this case, but would be nice to know what was stock. Which switch do most of you prefer?? Morgan |

I have never driven a B with the OD on the gear shift but with my 74 1/2 mgb roadster, I liked having the OD switch on the steering column as I was able to engage or dis-engage the OD with both hands on the wheel. Bruce |

For what it's worth, Australian 1969 Cars had a funny looking switch to the right of the instruments on the Dash. |

North American spec cars had the OD switch on the column from 68 to 76. Apparently cars without OD still had the switch, white and yellow wires at the multi-plug below the cowl. |

My 74 roadster was a non overdrive car. It has the colum mounted overdrive switch and the yellow wire from the switch through the multi-plug to a bullet connector in the engine bay. You will have to install a wire from the bullet connector to the overdrive switch and the solenoid. The wires are shown in the shop manual as dashed lines indicating an optional fitment. I installed an overdrive in the car last year. FWIW Clifton |
