MG MGB Technical - Which way is FRONT?
probably a stupid question but I cannot find anything in the shop manuals about this... I just painted my six fin fan blade as I am putting in a new radiator (yes safety yellow)... but now am not sure which way is the front. There is not stamp on this... the fan blades look symetrical but don't want to take the chance.... does somebody know a good way to tell the front from the back or does it make a difference? Thanks Edward |

Edward - speaking from mostly midget and TD experience, one side of the blade should be more concave (dished inward) than the other, whether metal or plastic. That is the side that goes toward the engine. If yours is truly symmetrical, could it be an after-market blade? Best of luck - - Alec |

I think the fan sucks air through the radiator, so that when it is on correctly it would suck a piece of paper held in front of the radiator toward the engine. If someone can confirm this (or correct it), then figuring out if you have it installed properly should be pretty easy. |

Alec is correct. David, the fan will suck either way round, but better if the correct way. FRM |

My fan sucks too, of course it's the original 3 blade and doesn't do a very good job of it. It would really suck if it came apart and went through the hood, er, bonnet or whatever you call that big sheet of aluminum in front of the windshield. |

The prop blades are notched at the tips, no? I believe the notches face rearward towards the engine. The un-notched part of the blades face forward to take in a bigger "bite" of air with each sweep. |
