MG MGB Technical - Who in the USA have got a peter burgess head?
Who in the USA has got a head from peter burgess. How much did it cost and what are your feelings of it? I want the fast road iron head. He quoted me 430pounds and 90 pounds to ship it. what does that translate to US dollars? thanks alot

Matt, While I wish I did have a Peter Burgess, I do not but, I can tell you that 520 pounds is equal to 748.00 US dollars at this time. There are many sites on the net that will do the conversion. Just do a general search for 'money exchange'

Matt. Exactly what are you getting for that price. Is this the cost of shipping the head to him, having him modify the head and ship it back? Or, is this the cost of a cylinder head in the UK, Peter doing the modifications and shipping it to you? Steve S. has a Burgess modified head and he posts regularly. So does Roger Parker who posts far less frequently than he used to. Les

Matt- At the exchange rate prevailing on December the 5th, the US Dollar was worth .71 UK Pounds. At that rate the combined cost works out to $732.40. I consider Peter's Fast Road head to be the most cost efficient way to increase power. You could easily spend that much on a combination other things and still have less of a power increase. With no other changes other than mounting a set of K&N airfilters you can expect a good 25% increase @ 3,000RPM and a 30% increase @ 5,2OORPM. Beyond that point the power will fall off much more gradually than with a stock head, so you can say goodbye to that frustrating "after-that-the-engine-seemed-to-run-into-a-wall" experience. If you add a Peco Exhaust system when your existing one dies it will extend the peak further (about 5,500RPM) and give yet more power. The head also takes beautifully to a Piper 270 camshaft, the aforementioned combination sacrificing a little power down very low in the powerband where you rarely go anyway (below 2,000RPM) and singing merrily all the way to 6,000RPM. As you can see, the Fast Road Head should be considered to be the jumping-off point when it comes to a quest for really serious power. It's the foundation that everything else is built on. To do it last is putting the horse behind the cart.

The breakdown for the fast road head is as follows: L100 UK for purchase of casting (Core charge in the US) L330 UK for head work to Fast road spec (250 Econotune) L90 UK for shipping If you ship your head to him, you of course need not pay for the casting. I would highly recommend having any head magnafluxed and pressure tested before shipping to Peter, so as not to waste the money shipping scrap. I'm sending him a head off a spare engine soon after the holidays, provided it's not cracked.

I am getting a head from him since my head is cracked. To The Top

My mother says I have a Peter Burgess head, but I like to think I look more like Phil Silvers. I'll have my friends check it out and get back with you.
