MG MGB Technical - Who in UK re-Maps Lucas Distributors ?

Anyone know who in UK re-Maps Lucas Distributors and gives you a print out of the results ?

Distributor Doctor is quoting £175+VAT
Aldon - Awaiting Quote

Anyone else?

New 25D distributors seem to be about £100 but I have a rare variety I wish to have fixed / re-mapped

Thanks

I'm not aware of anyone in the UK who has the Sun machine or similar, and I don't think even those give a print-out. There are a number who will 'remap' it to some claimed spec.

Distributor Doctor has spring sets for named 25D4 distributors, after that the centrifugal advance stop can be checked easily enough, the vacuum advance with a little more jiggery-pokery.

Hi Mark,

Try this mob, in Vic.

Accuspark in Hemel have a machine. They show it in use in their videos.

Mark, I don't see why you need a print out? I assume you are ordering a specific advance curve? You can test this using a timing light with advance feature once you install it. You would have to do this anyway to ensure the curve is what you asked for. You could then print the curve off a spreadsheet.
Distributor Doctor does have an advance tester.

How do you know the exact curve you need? Maybe a 123Tune or an Aldon Amethyst or even a locked out dizzy then test on rollers before ordering distributor mods?

Mark, I have had excellent results from Performance ignitions in Victoria and prompt mail service. Denis

Hi Peter,
It's for an mga twin cam engine. These engines are worth so much money now, plus so sensitive to timing, I want to see the results for myself. Hence the printout.

I purchased from distributor doctor new springs for £22 delivered next day. The small spring is virtually identical to the specifications published for the original 40718 distributor but the larger spring supplies was slightly different.

Electronic is very problematic for twin cam's as the front exhaust pipe is 4 inches from the distributor and I've seen 160+ degrees C on a laser thermometer gun tool. Heat shields are required.

Aldon quotes £55 to remap which seems a more sensible price. Not sure yet if they will supply a printout.

Thanks Dominic, I'll ask accuspark also.

Cheers

I was trying to find out how you know what curve you want? I know the electronic ones can have heat problems but should survive a dyno session to optimise the advance curve you need. I was asking what your datum is for the advance curve you want 'mapping'

Hi Peter,

All documented here:

I don't see how those figures obtain to your setup?
