MG MGB Technical - Will my carbs richen or lean?

As I set up my carbs...will they richen or lean when I re-fit the K&N filters?

Compared to standard filters your engine will run slightly leaner with K&N filters fitted
On the other hand, if you are running without filters at all and then you are going to the K&N filters it will be slightly richer than without filters.

If you are meaning for idle adjustment purpouses only
You can do your idle mixtures without the filters and then fit them after as the K&N filters make no real difference to mixture at idle speed
Having said that though, it is best to set up with the filters that you are going to run already fitted and then you know it is on the mark.

Fitting K & N's usually requires the use of needles which are slightly richer higher up the rev range. Depends on how good the rest of engine "breathing" is. Dropping the main jet is not usually sufficient to compensate for the extra air the cylinders will get at higher revs. If it does run lean at higher speeds you will "feel" it and the temp gauge and plugs will show it.
