MG MGB Technical - Wilwood calipers advice
Hi everyone, ive always had wildwood brakes on my GT, ad ive always had a funny brake pedal I.E I press the pedal and it goes quite far, then press again and its firm at the top. If I wait a few seconds then it starts all over again. Could it be that the calipers are too big for the master cylinder and that it takes a bit more fluid transfer to get the stiff pedal? Ive tried all types of bleeding techniques and never got anywhere. Thanks |

Hi, My thought is that your rear brakes need adjusting. Try the pedal with the hand brake on and see if the movement is less. Herb |

What you posted makes a lot of sense. The 4 piston Wildwood calipers have a larger internal area for the brake fluid and therefore will require a larger bore master cylinder to cope with the increased fluid displacement. RAY |

Hi, If you install a larger bore MC, then, yes, there will be less pedal movement, BUT you will need to push harder on the pedal for the same stopping effect. Herb |

If the first press is also spongy then that indicates air in the system. If the Wilwood calipers have a larger bore than the originals then that will result in a longer pedal but more braking effect for a given pedal pressure. A larger bore master, if it restores the ratio, will reverse those, but put it back to the original travel and pressure. |
