MG MGB Technical - wind blocker
Have just made and installed a wind blocker out of lexan. Can any one tell me what the optomin height is ? right now its 12" high . that puts it just below the wind shield hgt. not having much effect . I think its to high . cheers Mike |

Mike From the Jag-lovers Forum, E Type BBS: http://forums.jag-lovers.org/tv.php3?eNrLL8q0zcxLSa1QS7RN1S2pLEhVK7a1MDM1tDCxAlLGhhYQyhJMmYB5JkamVgDjWg7v After playing with different configurations of the wind deflector, doing seat-of-the-pants measurements, it's clear the Plexi ''wings'' can be relatively short, with no apparent impact on performance. Right now, I've got them cut about in half, which means they extend up to about the mid-height of the side windows, or only about 3'' above the top of the hood bag. The center mesh section does need to be taller than that, but I think can be dropped a few inches below where it started. |

Mike, I have a wind blocker installed within a roll bar. Whether it is within a roll bar of not I think the blocker should be at the same height as the door windows. In newer convertibles they can get away with shorter ones as their windshields are swept back considerably more than that of an MGB. I have also realized a certain dynamic of the wind turbulance with my blocker, such as; with door windows down and the passenger side of the tonneau fitted, at 60 mph the cockpit turbulance is only reduced by about 20%. With the tonneau stowed and at 60 mph, the wind turbulance is cut by 80% and even more if the door windows are up. Hope this helps. Cheers |

Folks: The pre is that jou can with one hand remove the deflector in case of emergency (rain on your way, shopping! etc.) For the savety case i made two straps at the undersite to 2 existing standoffs. succes Alfredo |

Wim, Your windblocker is a very good idea indeed. One question, does it work itself loose during driving or are the straps tight enough to stop any movement? |
John |
Depends on the height of the top of your head. If the top of the blocker is below that then you will feel it, and in fact probably more than if there were no blocker at all. Our heads are below the top of the screen, and 10.5" for the blocker is pretty effective. See http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk/wn_bodyframe.htm and click 'Windstop'. |
