MG MGB Technical - Windscreen Wiper Wiring
Im goingto replace a wiper motor on my 72 B roadster as it only seems to have one speed working. I have a donor wiper motor and assembly but want to make sure it works before I pull the old one out. When I supply power to the red/green wire it works. I know the blk is the ground but what do the other wires do? The wiring diagram I have shows all the wires going to the switch but not really what they power up. |

Go to the following web site which has a wealth of information and should be book marked. Follow "Spanners - Electrical - Wipers" and you will find wiring diagrams. Yours should be the late model two speed, as is my '73. http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk/ Good luck, Barry |

William, If you can reach it, disconnect the 5-way plug from your fitted wiper motor and fit it to the replacement motor. You can then test the replacement motor. I've done this many times on an MG midget and also a Triumph Stag - both using Lucas wiper motors - with no problems. My only query is access to the MGB's wiper motor. My car is away at the moment so I can't check for you. However I do remember having to remove the fuel gauge andwiper motor before I could reach the front wing (fender) mounting bolts/screws on my 72 BGT. I seem to remember that it was all good fun and resulted in the usual scarred hands and forearms. Good luck. Peter |

Peter: William probably has a LHD car, so the access is a good bit easier. He may have to remove the glove box tho'. |
