MG MGB Technical - Wire Gauge
What wire gauge is used in the dash loom of a 73B? I need to replace some burnt wiring but not the whole loom. I did find the source of the trouble and fixed the problem. |

There are a couple different wire's used. I think for the most part they are 12 gauge. If you take the burnt wires you removed to a hardware store they can match them up for you precisely. |

Gary: The wires used in Lucas systems are not rated by gauge. The wires are rated by cable size (strands) and carryiny capacity (Amps). Look at British Wirings web site, I think they have their catalog in the web site. www.britishwiring.com Typical cable sizes used in the MG are 9, 14, 28, 44 and 65. 14 equals 18 US gauge. Lt ignition, side and tail lamps and general wiring. 28 equals 14 US gauge. headlamps, Major accessory feeds. 44 equals 12 US gauge. Generator, Control box and ampmeter, items not on your 73 65 equals 10 US gauge. Alternator feed. Ordering from BW will get you the correct size and color, although some colors will require backorders. You can also get things like bullets, and connectors along with any other wiring parts. Their products are good, service is great, and the are a small friendly shop. No financia interest, just a satisfied coustomer. Clifton |
