MG MGB Technical - Wire Harness/Generator

Greetings: I have 2 questions...

1. What is the correct routing for the rear portion of the wiring harness on a 67B Rdstr.?? After connecting to the front main harness, does it go under the car along with the brake and fuel lines or inside the car somehow ? I forgot to take notes when I removed the old one....:((

2. I just received a new generator from Moss. My 67 is a positive ground car as you all know. The generator box said "made in India" OH NO !!! and also said "negative ground". I called Moss and they assured me I could just hook it up and it will work. I have my doubts. Has anyone used one of these "India made" generators and can I just hook it up with no polarity change problems. I want my car to remain positive ground..

Thanks for any help offred

On my '64, the wire harness goes along the route of brake and fuel line under the car.

A draw back from Moss's products is that they come from all around the world. Had gotten some stuff made in china, (which is counter to my economic/political standings).

Any installation of the generator requires polorizing it. There should have been a paper, or Moss should have been able to tell you how this is done.

Off hand I do not recall the specifics on the procedue. I only remember touching a wire from the generator to a post on the regulator.

Some one else with a good working knowlege can provide the exact process. I have no idea what factories in India do in marking the products.

May others be more helpful.

The rear harness does go under the car alongside the fuel and break pipes most of the way as glg says. You polarise the generator by briefly touching a live wire e.g. from a brown at the fusebox, to the F terminal of the dynamo, loom wires disconnected from it. Reconnect the wires, start it up, and measure the voltage on the brown at the fusebox. If you see about 14v it is charging, if only 12v it isn't.

Gig and Paul: Thanks for the info. After opening the second generator packing box I found a note on how to polarize the generator, the same way Paul suggested. I was assuming that if I had a 67 car and ordered a 67 generator, the polarity would be correct to start with ... guess I was wrong... I will repolarize it to positive as per the instructions.

Thanks for confirming the routing of the rear wiring harness. Just wanted to make sure. I took lots of photos during teardown, but not to many under the car.

Just a PS --

For a bit more on the harness routing -- the harness travels to the rear and at the place where the fuel pump is located then enters the forward right corner of the trunk, or boot, as they like to say back home.

glg, Thanks for the PS. I do have a hole in the right front corner of the trunk for the harness to enter the trunk for the rear lights. Next time I'll pay better attention and proceed more slowly with removal of the old harness.
Thanks again for your help..

(Did I say next time ? Don't think so :)
