MG MGB Technical - Wiring Harness Fabric Loom In Tatters

How should I replace the fabric wiring harness loom on my 65 roadster? The harness is mostly original and serviceable. It has not given any trouble once I corrected things the DPO did. So I see no need to replace it.

I am not tied to originality although I try to keep things original when feasible.

Some options I've considered are the corrugated plastic split sleeves or harness tape like used on later models. I think a well taped harness looks a little better but I have no idea how you do it.

Moss sells both black and blue non-adhesive harness tape. Black would be closer to the old fabric but blue might look cool.

Vehicle Wiring products and Autosparks both stock black fabric tape as well as all the other usual suspects. Personally I don't have a problem with split convoluted. It has advantages both in installation and accommodating additional wiring. But I have to admit the non adhesive loom tape does look better.

I agree that rewrapping with non-adhesive would look a lot nicer than split corrugated sleeving, having used both in the past.

This is what I use when rewiring boats and stuff. Cheap, effective, very durable.
Easy to install. Easy to remove if you want to alter/replace wiring - then just wind it back on afterwards.
Wires can break out of the loom anywhere you like.

We use miles of the stuff offshore too.

Well you did say you're not tied to originality!

Robert,

Did an entire loom in TESA brand 51608, works beautifully. I would use the same again any day.

I believe BMW etc. use it is standard.

There are some braided materials out that you can use.

I replaced all my worn covering for the headlight and front wiring with a woven material. It is not a perfect match, but close.
