MG MGB Technical - Wiring harness tape
Does anyone have suggestions for replacing the wiring harness tape on a '77 B? I have the blue tape from Moss. I'm not sure how to wrap it right around where the wires exit the harness. Thanks, Dave |

Normally the spurs off the main run are taped first from the free ends up to the main run and a couple of turns round that, then the main harness is wrapped covering all these free ends. |

Hi, Dave - it's been a while since I re-wrapped a harness, but the way I did it was to start at the end of each "branch" with a spot of masking tape, then I made about two full turns before starting wrapping toward the "trunk". At the trunk, I wrapped an inch or so past the "fork", then secured the cut end with masking tape again. Then I started at the front end of the trunk with a fresh roll and went from one end to the other. The loose end can be tucked under the final few wraps so that none of your temporary masking tape shows. I just wish that someone made a cloth version of the wrapping tape so I could get my '67 midget looking close to stock. I can always use black cloth friction tape, but the colored "tick marks" will still be missing - - Alec |
