MG MGB Technical - Wiring query.
Hi all, I have a '71 GT. Busy reconnecting the electrical system. The harness appears to be original as 99% of the color coded wires are correct. However there appears to be some issue at the rear of the car. According to the Haynes manual the wires from the rear side markers are black {ground} and red {live}. Mine are black and blue. Also the connecting wires between the two sides are indicated as red whereas the ones in the car are blue. The remainder of the color codes are correct to the tail light clusters. Is this correct? Cheers, Neil. |

U is correct, for 69-71 NA cars, and is shown as such in the Bentley (factory reprint). For some strange, probably regulatory reason, it was thought that they should light up with the headlamps but not the side/tail. (U is headlamp power, R is Side/T) I can only assume the idea was that if the Side/T or a headlamp went out, you'd still have the corners marked. You will note that the front side markers are also U. At the time, many US cars did not illuminate the front sidelamps ("park") with the headlamps. FRM |
