MG MGB Technical - Z-S spewing fuel......

Gentlemen, would appreciate any insight on this one,
just acquired another B...' 78 this time. Runs well, however a couple of days ago it started spewing fuel out every time it is started, is this a sticky float in the carb? The pump keeps running on and just starts running out of various little places on the carb, this car was de-toxed by the PO and a visual inspection shows it to be the same as my ' 79 de-tox B in a side by side comparison. any thoughts on how to remedy this? Its pretty alarming to have fuel flowing in the engine compartment....I don't want to drive it until I know this is properly fixed.
Thanks,
Jim

Well, if it's coming out of more than one spot, it's probably more than a sticky float. I'd suggest pulling it off and rebuilding it. Kits are about $30, I believe, from Moss.

Mine was leaking from the bottom - there is a gasket that fits around the bottom (can't remember what it's called) - simple to replace - again, need to remove the carb to do that.

Thanks for the advice guys.....rebuilt the unit today and think I found the culprit, Dirt had the needle vale stuck open. After a tidy rebuild I replaced both my in line filters, I live in a very dusty climate so I'm constantly cleaning my air filters, now I'm going to make a mental note to do the fuel filters at the same time.

Final note on the topic: if the detox job included removing the evap system (which it shouldn't have, as there's nothing to be gained by removing it) then check that the guy who did it didn't just plug the float vent tube. A plugged float vent equals a pressurised float chamber, which equals a fuel-squirting carb.
Sam

Thanks Sam....no, I'm aware of the issue, and the Evap is intact with the lines clear ( as you noted doing not much of anything anymore ). Went through a drama in 95 with the wifes car....which would start and quickly "bog" under accleration. appreciate the note.

One other modificaton to consider, applying JB weld on top of the copper plug in the choke housing. I have seen these plugs fall out and cause one car to catch on fire.
