MG MGB Technical - Ziebart?

My 76 is rustfree and the drain holes are open and functional. Is there any advantage of using a service like Ziebart (anyone out there use them?) as the Waxoyl routine is a mess?

Ziebart is a service, waxoyl is a product.

It is cheaper and you can do a better job using Waxoyl.

Ziebart won't do as a good a job as you will.

I didn't think they would do anything but new cars anyway?

Ziebart and other commercial rust proofing outfits will do older cars. They just don't guarantee them for as long as they do new cars.

Ziebart did my MGB some years ago. Considering that I had bad floor pan rust previously, it was a move I consider a good one.

Had my '75 midget Ziebarted when purchased new. No rust holes and no rust in body seams. Have never had a problem with nut and bolt removal. I take it back for annual inspections and touch-ups. Can be a bit costly but for a 28 year old car, I'm happy with the product. Currently working on a '79 MGB that will be Ziebarted when completed. First they will spray it with an "Acid" or rust stabilizer and then body seal and undercoat...an overnight affair. As Paul stated, the guarantee is not as good as a new vehicle but I do all my own repairs anyway, if needed.

Had another car Ziebarted from new many years ago. At the first 'service' they additionally injected over the headlights saying experience showed it was necessary. After 6 years and 60k of UK daily driving (guarantee expired by than) that was the only area that showed corrosion (very slight bubbling) from underneath, obviously retropective spraying was too late. I'm surprised they are still around. In the UK we have Waxoyl sprayers if you don't want to do it yourself, Lyndsay Porters 'Guide to Purchase and DIY Restoration of the MGB' tells you where to do it.

Hi,
I purchased my car a 1980 MGB from the original owner who had it rustproffed when new and I had it completely checked and did some checking myself and it's as good as when new and the drains are clear. Ziebart also installed a set of free Mud Flaps:-)

I bought my 1977 B in January and having stripped everything out I've been able to see that all the floor pans and sills are in tip top condition, and its been protected by Ziebart, as the stamps on the shell say
