MG MGB Technical - ZS carb/austin marina manifold/big bore exhaust

Currently have a 79 MGB and live in a county with inspection only emmissions. Am beginning a stepwise upgrade in engine performance modifications and somewhat following Barry Kindig's route except that Mike Brown no longer makes the custom intake manifold he did for Barry and therefore trying the Austin-Marina manifold with its less restritive exhaust manifold than stock and planning on purchasing a Falcon large bore stainless exhaust. Also will go with a high flow catalytic convertor which I may remove between inspections. Hoping to start with this until have time and funds to do proper head/cam work. With these changes on the exhaust end of things what adjustments can I expect to have to make elsewhere (carb/timing/etc). I realize that many out there would suggest the double SU or weber route however after rebuilding my ZS have been happy with its performance and again am in an emmissions inspection only county so need the single carb.

It seems to me you might need a less restrictive air filter than the stock set-up as well as some fine tuning of the ZS Carb. I believe Barry had a custom air box made. Maybe Barry is out there and will comment on necessary adjustments.
