MG MGF Technical - 8mm Rubber Tubing

I looked at Bruces rubber tubing solution to the window leak problem. Trouble is anywhere I go (aguatic shop included) stare blankly at me when I ask them for 8mm rubber tubing. Can anyone tell me what this tubing might normally be used for so I can explain it to the quys in the shops. Thanks.

Dave,
When you go to the doctor and have your blood pressure taken the doc wraps a cuff around your arm and starts pumping it up using a rubber bulb. The tubing I used was taken from one of these instruments, otherwise called a sphygmomanometer. A similar tubing is used on a stethoscope.

PS. I would imagine a length of 3 core mains cable, such as is used on a clothes iron, with the wires pulled out would suffice. Just have the external sleeve with the 3 holes down the middle ( in the shape of a shamrock?).

So that's why my GP missed my hypertension - some bugger'd nicked his tubing!

David Bainbridge, Aren't you a vet? Nick yer own!
Bruce Caldwell

What, you stalking me? I am indeed a vet, but as some of you may have noticed, vets never take animals' blood pressure. I reckon doctors only do it buy time so they can think of something convincing to say...

Is there any type of shop I can walk into and get it ? Without going shoplifting in my local GP's office.
d quigley

David- what are you saying? ;o)
At least you don't need to talk to your patients- or ask their permission before performing the "Herriot manoeuvre" ;o))

Regarding 8 mm hose- no idea where to suggest you look. No automotive application uses anything in this diameter. Electrical flex outer sheaths seem to be about 7 mm, so maybe that would be okay?

Vets never take an animals bllod pressure....

Visions of David with a gigantic strop and pump all wrapped round the front leg of an elephant!

Can you not get vacuum hose - the sort that used to go onto the distributor - that should be about the right size.

Anyway don't you use stethoscopes?

I have not read the original posting but if you can use claer plastic tub then try somewhere that sells home brewing equipment.

Hi!

Years ago, i had a remote control car working with oil. I used rubber tubing for the fuel pump and if I remember well from the blueprints they were exactly 8mm diameter.
It may be worth to take a look in a modelling shop.

I managed to find it by the roll at a car parts shop. Still used in some of the older cars - ie radiator overflow tube.

Good luck
