MG MGF Technical - Brake lights comming on with clutch depressed
Hello everyone. Ive been away for a few weeks and have returned to find the brake lights on the F are coming on everytime I dip the clutch. Is this an easy to fix job or what? Im woried that Ive got bare wires running somewhere near the clutch mechanism. This happens when the headlights are on or off, but not every time I press the clutch, around 50% of the time. |

I would imagine that the wires to your brake light switch on the brake pedal, have somehow come loose and when you dip the clutch its pulling these wires thus pulling on the brake light switch!!. You will have to spend a few minutes upside down in the footwell and have a look!!!... |

Thats what Im thinking. I thought id ask before I started riping thre carpet up. Most of the problems ive had have been "common faults". I thought this would be another one and someone would have s] a quick fix. Cheers Ben |

Now Im sober again I thought I'd have a good look at the F. The brake lights come on after the clutch pedal has travelled about 10mm. The brake lights still actuate when you apply the brake. I cant see anything untoward under the dash, the clutch pedal is clear of any cables and the brake solenoid works well so thats not sticking. What else can it be, does your ECU have anything to do with it? The F also had its clutch renewed a couple of months ago, could something have gone wrong when the garage reinstalled it? I dont know how long its been doing this new trick either. Please help. Ben |
