MG MGF Technical - change switches positions

I have mgtf and I want to fit hardtop rearscreen heater switch in a different position (in the place made for front fog lamps switch). Can I do it? I know switches has a little plastic tab that denie this thing. There is a way to fit however?

thanks
cnerone

Yes, you can do this - simple file off the plastic tab that 'keys' the switch to a particular hole.

I've done exactly this on my MGF, so now I have both fog lamp switches vertically above one another next to the driver, whilst the EPAS bypass switch is now in the centre and the rear demist switch is displaced to the passenger side.

EPAS bypass? what is this?

Will's crafty invention - see http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/epas_bypass.htm

changing the switches round, now that's something I've been wanting to do for a while. I keep fumbling for the rear fog lights and missing when I need to switch them on in urgency (e.g. emergency braking, when I can see the person behind hasn't noticed).

I always found the MY-2000 layout less practical for lowering both windows at the same time too.

I think this will require removal of the whole centre console on a post-2000 car however, but should be very easy afterwards.

Shouldn't be necessary Anthony: the switches push out from behind, so all you need do is remove the triangular console panels that hold the footwell courtesy lights.

hard top fitting instruction say this:
>> remove the triangular console panels that hold the footwell courtesy lights.

Thanks Rob. Now I know what I'll be doing this evening after supper ;-)

You want to try this on a ZS! One switch is on the door and the other is between the seats.
