MG MGF Technical - Cold air induction tubes
Is it possible/beneficial to use a larger diameter tubing (like washing machine ducting) as opposed to the two tubes used with the K&N filter. My theory is that one tube = less resistance to air flow = increased quantity of cold air reaching the filter! Would the tubing withstand the pressures put on it....any ideas? |

Rob The idea of two smaller tubes was to allow access to the underside of the car where they could be placed in the 'ram air' without hitting the ground and also get through the narrow gaps between the K&N and the cars underside. If you have another route for you tube then as you say a larger diameter will be better. Ted |

Rob, >>My theory is that one tube = less resistance to air flow = increased quantity of cold air reaching the filter! Better still, enclose your 57i and run that flexpipe to the side air-intake. See Rob Bell's instructions at http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/ and go to the Technical section and read about cold air boxes. Dave |

Yep def the best bet running from the nearside grill. My Viper kit takes the same route and it is easy enough to do.Good luck! Duncan. |

Is this the new theory. Since when is it better to pick up the cold air from the side airvents ? Another option is mounting a kind of spoiler, scoop under the car that forces cold air into the engine bay. Pictures can be found on Dieters site (off course). |

Erik, >>Since when is it better to pick up the cold air from the side airvents ? When the filter is enclosed by a box, so that the cold air is sucked from the side air vent. I encourage you to read about this on Rob's site - see the link I posted before. Dave |

Just been looking at my K&N 57i... I noticed that the filter was cold on 1 side and warm on the other.... obviously where the air pipes on pointing at it it was cold... So i decided to extend one on the pipes so that it comes up under the air filter... I will see if there is any benifit to this.... |
