MG MGF Technical - Coolant advice
Can someone explain the problems they have with the coolant system, My car is heading for 43K and I seem to see lots of mails about the dreaded service with respect to the coolant. What happens, Is it to do with the Head gasket. |

There seems to a direct link with the incorrect filling/refilling of the cooling system at the appriate service with head gasket failures. This is due to the very long and rather convuluted plumbing getting air locks which in turn cause 'hot spots' in the engine and this can cause a gasket failure. There are three (I think) bleed points and each one must be bled and in the correct sequence to ensure that all air is expelled. You would think that any mg specialist would do this but it seems that they dont all do it properly. My advice is monitor, very carefully, you cooling system after a coolant change, Ted |
