MG MGF Technical - Dash Lights

The dashboard lights on my 96 F are very poor(rather like the headlights). I think they have been for years but I would now like to make them brighter. If I were to replace the reostat(spelling!)is it likely to improve things? Did enquire about cost and I think it was over £40 to purchase so dont want to go that route unless it will fix the problem.
Has anyone put brighter or different coloured builbs in and how easy would it be to do?
Thanks for any help

the rheostat will only adjust what is already there - you need brighter bulbs.

A while ago there was a lot of discussion (probably on another bbs) about swapping bulbs, both for brightness and colour. Somebody found a source of leds and did something about it. Personally, I never had the F dash lights turned up to thier max as I prefered a slightly muted effect. The same is now true on my TF.

Not the most help to you but hopefully one of the 'chav lights' brigade may be able to point you in the right direction. Andy Phillips may be able to help (not that he is chav of course, but he makes more mods than many others).

Chav Boy here! ;-)

Tom,

as John says the rheostat only dims the bulbs from maximum. You can change the front ones quite easily.

Sorry have not got a lot of time so found my old thread

and Rob Bell was kind enough to host some pics. More for fitting LED's, but will give you an idea of bulb location.

Thanks guys.
Certainly not looking to be Chav- far too old for that its just that I dont remember the lights being so dim when I bought it.
Looks rather fiddly to change bulbs so will probably leave until a bulb goes then I have no option.
Thanks again
