MG MGF Technical - dashboard stay in dark
Hello everybody. My dashboard, left rear light and both rear lights are idle. Simply everything stay in dark. What could be wrong? Thanks, Primoz |
Primoz |
Sorry, both rear FOG lights ;) |
Primoz |
I would take a guess at Fuse number 8 in the passenger footwell fuse box. This 10 amp fuse appears to feed the dashboard instrument lamps and the fog lamps. Sam |
Sam Murray |
Sam, thanks, but I checked all the fuses. |
Primoz |
Primoz, Did you check Link No1 under the front bonnet. 40Amps. This link supplies Fuse 7 & 8. Do the headlights work? Bruce |
Bruce Caldwell |
Link No1? (sorry, can you tell me more? I look in box with Fuses under front bonnet.) and yes, headlights work. Thanks, Primoz |
Primoz |
Primoz, OK. If headlights work then Link No1 is OK. Only other problem (that I can think of) is a wire come adrift at the back of the lighting switch in the steering column. Check for a loose Red wire. You mention the rear lights don't work but didn't say about the front side lights. Do the front side lights work (first position on switch)? Bruce |
Bruce Caldwell |
One other thing Primoz, Trace the above mentioned red wire to a header joint where 3 red wires are joined. Make sure this joint is OK. You are best to remove the under dash fusebox cover to do this. cheers Bruce |
Bruce Caldwell |
Bruce, many thanks. I'll look for that red wire. I must wait until Friday, to return home from an official business. All other lights work, all front and right rear, also on first position. Hope my English is not too bad :) Primoz |
Primoz |
Promoz, Your English is excellent! Sam |
Sam Murray |
Unlike Sam's spelling!! Sorry Sam :¬) |

Primoz <<My dashboard, left rear light and both rear fog lights are idle.>> This translated from your first two posts. I'm puzzled. My car has one fog light at the rear on one side and a reversing light on the other side. Can you explain this? Does yours have two? When you say no dasboard lights do you mean just the ones in front of the steering wheel or also the lights in the switches and controls e.g. the heater controls? If your left rear sidelight is not working but your front sidelight is OK then this suggests a break in the wiring to the rear or a blown bulb. I presume you have checked the bulbs? BUT coupled with the dashboard problem it would appear you have more than one fault causing these problems! EEEEk! Bruce |
Bruce Caldwell |
Bruce, that's right. My car has one fog light and one reversing light on left side of a car. And on the right side of car another for light and reversing light. Also the lights in the switches and controls are in dark. Only indicator lights on dasboard works (Oil, SRS, ...) Yes, I have checked the bulbs. Primoz |

Primoz, It might help you to know that Dieter has a full set of electrical diagrams in his website: http://www.mgfcar.de/schedules/index.htm You should be able to use these to localise where the problem could be. Darren |

Thanks everybody, but I need to drive my car to garage mechanic. |
