MG MGF Technical - Disable alarm?

My alarm goes off for no reason...upseting neibours

I've had to resort to disconnecting the horns!
Does anyone know how to disable the proximity alarm, leaving the horn working??

I recently had a similar problem with my TF's alarm going of randomly. Turned out to be a faulty door latch which was replaced under warranty. Basically, the fault with the door latch (driver's door) was saying the door was open when it wasn't and then causing a power drain which in turned caused the alarm to go off.

Other Symptoms:

The "lights on" alarm sounding when the engine was not running, headlights on and drivers door closed.

Super-locking not working, again because the latch was saying the door was open.

Central locking kept unlocking the doors again when I tried to lock the car with the keys only.

Dave, I've had this problem twice!!!
Luckily had a garage to leave the car in overnight, unlocked.
Had the drivers door lock replaced the first time, then both locks the second time.
Thankfully car still under warranty!!!
Problem now solved & has been since last summer.
Fingers crossed......

You don't leave your phone in the car, do you? That can trip the alarm randomly...

Same is true to being close to a microwave oven...

Dealers can reset the sensitivity of the radar unit using the testbook if all else fails (they can also read what triggered the alarm, I think...

>Had the drivers door lock replaced

Probably the same as I had done then.

Dave,
If you really need to disconnect the motion sensor (bearing in mind the effect on your insurance!)then it can be done easily.
Behind the T bar, at the top in the centre is the sensor. Feel forward from the rear shelf behind the T bar and you will feel it, wit the hood unclipped at the rear it can be seen.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor and hey presto, no motion sensing!

I've had driver's and passenger's door locks replaced as well.

If I recall there was an istance of someone's alarm going off a while ago and it turned out to be a taxi regularly turning in his drive.

I had the same problem with my old F. The alarm was going off during the night and at certain points in the evening, not everynight though but just 2-3 a week.. I narrowed it down to the local taxi firm pulling up outside or turning around in my driveway. My local dealers told me that they must be using the same frequency as the alarm. I not sure what they did but it worked and never happened again.

Dave,

As Jason (Da) states, you can disconnect the volumetric alarm by unplugging the sensor but this is a defeatest approach. The sensors are adjustable by an MGR dealer using a Testbook computer.

Mine went off one night and I looked out to see an AA van parked behind my car calling his base on the radio. He looked fairly annoyed as he could hardly make himself heard over my alarm. He finally stopped speaking and got out to investigate my car. As he did so a police car pulled up to see what the noise was all about. The police man called base to check my number to find out who owned the car and you guessed it..Off it went again! Talk about a self propogating situation.
