MG MGF Technical - Electrical Short

Hello fellow MGers. I jsut took my first step into the wonderful world of midget ownership a few weeks ago. Yesterday, while taking "Leaky Leana" for a spin, I noticed the Fuel Indicator and RPM gauge needles feel to 0. Then the turn indicators and reverse lights stopped. I checked the fuse and noticed it had popped. So I replaced it and happily motored off. It worked fine for about an hour, then went down again, replaced it and it didn't even last long enough for me to back out of my parking space! Now, it just pops the minute I start the car. It would appear I have a short somewhere, but have no idea where to start. I have isolated it to the one fuse, all other fuses have stayed ok. Any thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advanced,

This Car, by the way, is a 1976 Midget 1500, US version. Sorry about excluding that important element!

Sorry to hear about your trouble. You'll probably get a better response if you posted on the Midget board ;-)

More invaders from the Midget board!!!!

"A" posted for help there and got refered straight back here, I guess you guys must be better than us guys but thats ok cos our cars are better than yours :-P

MG Wars????? oh I hope not!! :-)

Problem is caused by Will Munns, who cannot decide if he wants a Midget or a proper car :-)
John Ponting

If more of you guys with proper cars got your selves a midget, you too might become sociable and wave at us in our real MG's!!!! besides if you did get a Midget we could get some sound technical advice from you all ;-)
Colin Pearce

Odd really, statistically i get fewer waves from Midgets than almost any other MG (and that includes Zed cars who hardly ever wave back and when they do it is usually accompanied by a puzzled "do i know you?" expression on thier faces!).

It has got to the point where i can't remember the last time i received a wave from a Midget driver.

Do you guys only wave at 'propper' MGs (ie Abingdon or earlier) or are us young Longbridge upstarts in your 'MG wave' portfolio?

I get waves from MGBs, Metros/Maestros/Montegos, RV8s, Fs, TFs, ZR/ZS/ZTs all the time, but hardly ever from Midgets - strange.

I know from my own point of view that, well in the past I always waved at the new MG's but only ever got 2 waves back, so I gave up after a while. I think that the majority of new MG owners are not enthusiasts like the owners who wisit this BBS and therefore possibly view Midgets as an Inferior car and so may tend to ignore us, just waving at the B's; so leaving those from the Midget board with the thought that its just not worth the effort. I wouldnt think for a minute that a true MG enthusiast driving a modern MG would ignore me or anyone else driving any other model; I know one gentleman who now drives an F only, because of an accident which restricts the type of car he can drive, who has driven MG's all his life (and still owns a TF, though sadly laid up), who wouldnt dream of not waving at another MG. It seems to me that most owners fo the new cars dont look at ownership in the same light as we all do (and I know you all do or you wouldnt be reading this). I stand corrected and will start waving at you all again. so those of you in the Anglesey area who see a fat bald bloke driving a Tahiti blue 69 Midget, give me a wave and I'll wave back at you. To see what we look like take a look at a page off my American freinds web site.

Besides I'm only jealous cos I cant afford an MGF

To see what that was all about, you'll have to read this:

Like the site Colin, you looked a little sheepish in one of the photos. Who were the couple standing in front of the car?

I'm hurt, no really I am, just cos you don't want a car where you can get your hands dirty, cut and bruised

When you get the car finished Will you'll never want another car, must say I'm envyous. Is this going to be a road car or a race car?

sorry had to mop the tea off the keyboard ;-)

>you'll never want another car
I don't think I'll ever get it to a point when it's 'finished!'

>Is this going to be a road car or a race car?
Totally road, although who knows in a few years time...

Colin,

Nice car, i have a soft spot for the Midget and Tahiti Blue really suits it. Great pix too, being 6'2" and more than a little overweight i could relate to them, indeed if i was any bigger, or the F was any smaller i doubt i'd get in it! :-)

Pic of me and Scarlet:

Note the paintwork, this is an example of the extremes we modern MG owners have to go to just to get a wave from our classic predesessors! ;-)
