MG MGF Technical - Engine Bay temperature

My '96 MGF first registered this 'fault' after motorway driving last week. The dash light remains on even when engine cold. I assumed either Ambient Air Temperature(AAT) sensor fault or engine bay cooling fan fault. Removal of AAT sensor extinguishes warning light (and fan does not run). The AAT sensor has a resistance of 3800 ohms at 10|
