MG MGF Technical - Fire Extinguisher

Can anybody post any pictures (or descriptions) of where they have mounted a fire extinguisher? I want to mount a motorsport-size device 'within reach of the driver'...

Thanks,

do you mean a competition type that will have container in bonnet or boot area with lines going into engine bay for competition you need to have a switch on dash and one outside for acess by safety marchalls if not i keep small one under bonnet and one in the net in boot hope this helps richard

I installed mine next to the passenger side of the centre console. Used strong self tapper screws to mount the metal frame. Position it in a way so that the passenger seat can move fully forward without jaming on the extinguisher. Easy reach from drivers seat. See Pic.

Thanks. I meant the handheld type as in Branko's photo. I was thinking about mounting it across the car to make it easier to get at, possibly on the driver's side, using some kind of quick-fit fasteners so that I can take it out when not needed (when it can be mounted under the bonnet).

I am not entirely sure, but, when the car is used in official speed events, then it may be against regulations to mount it on the drivers side. Reason is that it may become dislodged and get cought up under the brake pedal etc. Anyway, Just a thought...

It's okay there from a motorsport perspective (or at least it is on my MGB GT!) as you need to be able to operate it while still harnessed.

I think mine was fitted as an optional extra when the car was new. It is right in front of the passager seat, horizontal and close to the floor. It doesn't get in the way of the passager in terms of getting in or out of the car.

I have an alloy plate mounted using the passenger seat bolts with the extinguisher mounted to that. No drilling into the car and the pasenger seat movement is not affected. It has never been queried by a CAMS/FIA approved scrutinizer in eight years.

Thanks, that's brilliant and exactly what I'll do, wish I'd thought of it myself!
