MG MGF Technical - Headlight on buzzer is malfunctioning

Hello,

The headlight buzzer on my 5mth old MGF was working fine up until a couple of weeks ago. I've noticed that if you leave the door open with the headlights on, it takes about 30 seconds for the buzzer to sound. After that, if you shut and open the door, it comes on immediately.

I've had a look and it appears the mechanism is somehow built into the door itself, not a little button thats pressed by the door when it closes like most other cars.

Is there anyway I can do anything about this myself? I know the car is still under warranty, but its a lot of stuffing around to get it into town for repairs.

Thanks in advance to anyone that replys.

regards,
David Crawford

David,

The switch for the door light and buzzer are one switch built into the driver's door. They are part of the lock mechanism. It could be that your switch has some rain water in it and has corroded or there is a faulty connection. The actual buzzer is part of the Multi Function Unit which is up under the dash by the fuse box I think. This is true for the Mk1 model but I must confess when studying the diagrams for the MY2001 model I cannot find the Lights On Alarm Buzzer mentioned.

Good luck
