MG MGF Technical - HGF How much?
A mate at work had to take her 7 year old F to the car doctor with steam coming out of the back. If it is the dreaded HGF, how much is it likely to set her back? Thanks in anticipation. |

A lot depends on what else has happened Carole: if the engine has become heat damage, then in the worst case senario, you could need a new engine. In the best case senario, it may be a simple case of removing the top of the engine, remove old gasket and replace with new and put back together. There is a 10-fold difference between these - £3-400 for the latter - over £3k for the former. Fingers crossed for your friend that this isn't something that expensive! |

Mine's due back today after this... Mine was cylinder head off, skim the head, replace the coolant (there was no cross contamination)... put it back together again... £1100... but that was from an MGRover dealer and was covered by my warranty... Chris. |

Did you get the belts included in the end? |

Thanks The info has been passed on and now fingers, toes and anything else that we can think of is crossed! |

Will, Nope... sorry mate... but at least it knocks a bit of the next service so I'm not overly worried... Chris. |

There is a mg specialist garage in Bristol, staple road that will do a hgf and skim for 500 squids |
