MG MGF Technical - Horn Failure
Hi I am having problems with my horn and it is MOT time. The horn will not work when using the buttons on the steering wheel, however I have activated the alarm and the horn sounds. Can anyone please tell me if this is likely to be a complecated and/or expensive problem to fix?? Thanks for your help Kelly |

The steering wheel buttons are usually very reliable - but given that the alarm works through sounding the horn suggests that the usual issue of a faulty horn unit doesn't apply. Might be worth checking out the rotorary coupling in the steering column. Is your SRS light illuminating and extinuishing as it should on start up? |

Hi The SRS light does not illuminate no. I had it in the garage today and they have confirmed it's the coupler. They want to charge £75 + VAT for a new one, however I have seen a second hand one on eBay for £10 - does anyone know if this is reliable? The garage are happy to fit one I get myslef for £20 - is this a reasonable price?? Thanks Kelly |

Second hand is always an unknown quantity, but the couplers are usually pretty reliable. But buying new will be safer IMO. £20 to fit is probably not too bad, and a reflection of 30minutes work at Garage labour rates. |
