MG MGF Technical - Horn Failure
I am having problems with my horn and it is MOT time.
The horn will not work when using the buttons on the steering wheel, however I have activated the alarm and the horn sounds.
Can anyone please tell me if this is likely to be a complecated and/or expensive problem to fix??
Thanks for your help
|The steering wheel buttons are usually very reliable - but given that the alarm works through sounding the horn suggests that the usual issue of a faulty horn unit doesn't apply.|
Might be worth checking out the rotorary coupling in the steering column.
Is your SRS light illuminating and extinuishing as it should on start up?
The SRS light does not illuminate no. I had it in the garage today and they have confirmed it's the coupler. They want to charge £75 + VAT for a new one, however I have seen a second hand one on eBay for £10 - does anyone know if this is reliable? The garage are happy to fit one I get myslef for £20 - is this a reasonable price??
|Second hand is always an unknown quantity, but the couplers are usually pretty reliable. But buying new will be safer IMO. £20 to fit is probably not too bad, and a reflection of 30minutes work at Garage labour rates.|
