MG MGF Technical - How do i drain the petrol completely?
Hi, i'm in the process of trying to drain out the fuel from a 52 plate TF. I disconnected the fuel filter and then attached a hose to the fuel pipe feeding the filter. After turning the key to the engine on position petrol comes out of the hose, but only for 2 secs then stops. I then have to turn the key off, wait 5 secs, then turn it back on. 2 secs later the petrol stops flowing again. Its going to take me a long time to remove 25 litres this way..... any ideas? Thanks Garry |

The traditional method is the rubber tube syphon, but you'll always be left with some fuel in the tank. there was a probably apochryphal tale of a guy who had got some dirt in his fuel tank. He'd syphoned out the fuel, storing in various cans and bottles in his garage, and had then removed the tank from the car. he tried getting the dirt out by tipping the tank every which way, but it still rattled around inside. He then had the bright idea of using his vacuum cleaner to get it out. Unfortunately, the vacuum sucked the petrol vapour out through the electric motor, and duly ignited, producing the effect of a jet engine on reheat. The Hoover duly set off, knocking over some of the stored bottles. the resultant blast incinerated the car and blew the roof off the garage. Be warned! |

Have you filled with bad fuel ? Anyway, I don't think it's a good idea to using the fuel pump to get it empty. The fueltank shape only allows the pump to access the co-drivers side of if stationary. The 2 second cycle is correct when the engine is not running. Anyway, I fear you need to open the tank and use the rubber tube syphon method. http://www.mgfcar.de/fueltank/dk_Dcp_5522.jpg http://www.mgfcar.de/fueltank/dk__3482.jpg http://www.mgfcar.de/fueltank/ |

As Dieter has given you the answer you _need_ I'll answer the questions you asked ;-) The power to the pump comes thru a relay pack (like a block of cheese, but matt black plastic) situated very close to the ECU (IIRC on the same bracket). If you can find this then the white with purple wire will be the one that feeds the pump. Failing this the pump access is under the round plate on the parcel shelf, and there is probably a connector under there you can hijack. (same wire colours) |

That is a white wire with purple stripe |
